Distractions Are Part Of The Business … Or Not?

Posted on 02. Apr, 2010 by admin in My story

One thing I learned in the last week, is that distractions are part of the business. Up till now I could keep it a bit under wraps, but since a friend of mine introduced me to a skypegroup with other IM’ers (and some big names too) I’m lost. I have the window open at all times and can’t resist to jump into a conversation if it’s a topic I like.

There are reasons why I love this chat group. One of them I named already: other IM’ers and some big names too. I mean, it’s a great way of networking and getting to know like-minded people. You never know when an opportunity comes to life just by chatting with them. And I learned some new things already too. I’m sure being part of this group is a great opportunity, even not for now, then surely in the future. Lucky for me, if I don’t want to be disturbed by the skypechat I just put my status on “not available” and I won’t noticed the new conversations starting (off course that means I’ll be reading them later on).

Now, that’s not my only distraction off course. The online world holds many others. Another big distraction for me are forums. I don’t even have that much forums I belong too. Only two: the Warriorforum and the forum of The Nicheblogger. It doesn’t seem much, but if you know how many new posts are posted on the Warriorforum every hour, you would know that I can not read every one of them, ’cause that would be a day-job on it’s own. So again, another distraction for me. this too, I try to keep in line. I try to only log into this forums on certain moments in the day. Between two big jobs for example. And every morning when I first get on the internet and at night before I close the computer.

Besides that, my only distraction are mails from friends. I have a nice friend on the other side of the ocean, and well, we mail every day. No problem with getting mails, but when I’m starting to mail more then do work, then it’s a problem. But I’m getting better at it.

Now, I’m wondering, what are your daily distractions when working online?
